What is a Piano?
The piano, also known as the 'pianoforte', was invented in Italy in 1709. An extremely versatile instrument, the piano keyboard spans seven and a half octaves. The two most common types of pianos are the Grand piano and the Upright piano. Probably the most well-known maker of pianos is Steinway & Sons. Throughout history, piano music has spanned nearly every genre - whether it was Van Cliburn playing classical piano, Scott Joplin playing ragtime, Chick Corea playing Jazz piano, or Billy Joel playing pop favorites like "Piano Man". Keep in mind, due to its size, the piano is not easily transportable! Therefore, your you will most likely need to have a piano on site to wherever you are playing. Alternatively, some piano players can perform on an electric piano or piano keyboard, but the sound will not be as authentic as a real piano.

This is just a small example of some of the information that we provide in our piano classes.  Our classes are geared towards not only teaching you how to play piano, but educating you on what the value of music is.

Piano Lessons

Piano students will have the opportunity to take their piano lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of our teachers' studios. Careful attention is placed on each piano student to ensure a custom lesson plan.  We understand that every student has different needs and abilities and therefore the piano lessons will be planned with that knowledge in mind. Each student will have the opportunity to perform in one of our recitals no matter what level the student. All aspects of music will be taught, including reading, rhythm, sound development, and piano repertoire so that the student becomes a complete musician. Wherever the student's musical interests lie, Ears of Joy has a piano instructor to help the student realize his or her greatest musical ambitions!

Ears of Joy Lessons Include...

Students taking piano lessons will have the chance to share their new found skills and material with family and friends.  We will often arrange for small recitals in front of chosen guest to boost confidence, and demonstrate talent.  We have found that this is a great boost to the student's moral. Performing for a live audience enhances the piano student's excitement and joy of playing.

Learning to play piano will improve upon a student's coordination skills. Unlike many other instruments, the piano requires both hands to independently maneuver around the keys. This will give independence to each hand. For a new player to witness this during the course of their piano lessons, it is often an awe-inspiring feeling for the student! The piano can give the student a feeling of creating their own band without needing any other instruments. Piano lessons can truly give the student the opportunity to have this experience!
